The Ultimate Minecraft Mace Guide: Fall Damage Math & Enchantments

Learn the exact physics of the Mace, fall distance multipliers, and how Density, Breach, and Wind Burst stack.

The Mace is the first weapon introduced in Minecraft 26.x that features uncapped damage scaling based on fall distance. If you drop from a high enough cliff, you can one-shot the Ender Dragon, the Warden, or an armored player in PVP!

How Mace Damage Scaling Works

Base Mace damage starts at 7 (similar to a Diamond Sword). However, for every block you fall before striking an entity, the damage increases exponentially:

  • First 3 blocks fallen: Adds +4 damage per block.
  • Next 5 blocks fallen (blocks 4-8): Adds +2 damage per block.
  • Any additional blocks (9+): Adds +1 damage per block.

If you land a successful smash attack, all fall damage you would have taken is completely negated, and a knockback shockwave knocks back surrounding enemies!

Mace-Exclusive Enchantments

The Mace cannot receive Sharpness or Smite. Instead, it has three specialized enchantments:

1. Density (Levels I - V)

Increases damage dealt per fallen block by +0.5 extra damage per level per block. At Density V, falling just 10 blocks delivers massive lethal damage to almost any mob.

2. Breach (Levels I - IV)

Reduces the effectiveness of armor on the target by 15% per level (up to 60% reduction at Breach IV). Breach is the ultimate enchantment for PVP against Netherite-armored opponents.

3. Wind Burst (Levels I - III)

Obtained exclusively from Ominous Vaults. Landing a successful smash attack launches you upward into the air, allowing you to chain consecutive aerial smash attacks infinitely!
