Minecraft building palettes

Start with a tested material family, then replace or lock individual blocks in the generator above.

What is a Minecraft block palette?

A block palette is a small set of materials that repeats throughout a build. One block normally carries the main wall color, while darker framing, lighter transitions and small accents create depth.

This generator does not recolor Minecraft blocks. It measures the visible pixels in each local texture and ranks existing blocks by perceptual color distance. Texture, material logic and survival availability still matter, so use the result as a focused shortlist rather than an automatic building rule.

For a readable build, combine one main family, one structural contrast and one limited accent. Too many unrelated textures can make a wall look noisy even when every block is close to the same HEX color.

Current blocks, not a 1.20 archive

The latest filter includes Pale Oak and Resin from the 1.21 era, Trial Chamber materials such as Tuff Bricks and oxidized copper, plus the Cinnabar and Sulfur building sets added in Java 26.2.

The 26.2 textures were taken from the local copy of the official Java 26.2 client assets. The release adds Cinnabar and Sulfur stone sets with polished, brick and chiseled variants. Read the official 26.2 notes.

Use the version selector when building on an older server. Results newer than the chosen release group are removed before color matching.

Minecraft block palette FAQ

Does this tool dye or recolor Minecraft blocks?

No. It searches the colors already present in vanilla block textures and helps you choose materials that exist in the game.

How are matching blocks calculated?

The tool averages visible texture pixels, converts the selected color and each block to CIE LAB, then sorts by perceptual color distance.

Can I find Minecraft blocks from a photo?

Yes. Upload an image locally and click any visible pixel. The selected pixel becomes the target HEX color; the image never leaves your browser.

Does the palette support Minecraft 26.x?

Yes. The latest group includes official Java 26.2 textures such as Cinnabar, Sulfur, Copper Lanterns and Shelves, along with established blocks from earlier releases.

Why do two matching blocks still look different?

Average color is only one factor. Texture contrast, transparency, biome tint and lighting can change how a block looks in a finished build.

Can I share or download my palette?

Yes. Copy a URL containing the selected color and block IDs, copy the IDs as text, or export a labeled PNG without creating an account.
