How to Build an Automatic Item Sorting Storage System in Minecraft 26.x (26.1/26.2)

Build a compact, non-overflowable multi-item sorter with step-by-step redstone comparator layouts and hopper filter math.

As your survival world grows, sorting chest after chest of cobble, dirt, and mob drops becomes tedious. An automatic Redstone Item Sorter filters items into dedicated chests automatically!

The Standard ImpulseSV Item Filter Layout

Each sorting slice requires:

  • 1 Redstone Comparator
  • 1 Redstone Torch
  • 1 Redstone Repeater
  • 3 Redstone Dust
  • 2 Hoppers (Top filter hopper + Bottom transfer hopper)

The 41-1-1-1-1 Filter Hopper Formula

In the top filter hopper (facing into the comparator, NOT down):

  • Slot 1: Place 41 items of the item you want to sort (e.g. Iron Ingot).
  • Slots 2, 3, 4, 5: Place 1 item each of a renamed filler item (e.g. "Filter Anvil" cobble).

This totals 45 items in the hopper, emitting a signal strength of 2. When a 42nd iron ingot enters slot 1, signal strength increases to 3, unlocking the repeater below and releasing 1 item into the chest!
