One redstone tick equals two game ticks, or 0.1 seconds at a steady 20 TPS. A hopper transfer cooldown is eight game ticks.

How redstone delay is calculated

A repeater adds 1 to 4 redstone ticks. Comparators and redstone torches add one redstone tick each, while each hopper item transfer adds eight game ticks. Server lag can make real elapsed time longer without changing the intended tick count.

Frequently asked questions

How long is one redstone tick?

One redstone tick is two game ticks, normally 0.1 seconds at 20 TPS.

How much delay does a repeater add?

A repeater can be set to 1, 2, 3, or 4 redstone ticks, equal to 0.1 through 0.4 seconds.

Does server lag change the result?

The circuit still uses the same tick count, but fewer than 20 TPS makes those ticks take longer in real time.
