Armor trim guide

Dune Armor Trim

The Dune armor trim comes from desert pyramids and has a dry, ancient style that fits sandstone builds and desert exploration.

Search desert pyramid chests for Dune smithing templates. Dune is a common early armor trim if you explore desert biomes and safely loot pyramid rooms.

Dune looks strong with gold, quartz, and copper. On netherite armor it creates a treasure-hunter contrast; on iron or leather it feels more subtle. Gold is the classic desert choice, quartz keeps the pattern light, and copper adds a warmer aged tone.

Added in Minecraft 1.20 for Java and Bedrock gameplay.

Step 1

Find the Dune Template

Desert Pyramid hidden chests are the main source for the Dune smithing template. The listed drop chance is 14.3%, so the practical search time depends on how quickly you can reach the structure and check its loot source.

Step 2

Duplicate the Template

Duplicate the template at a crafting table with 7 diamonds, 1 Sandstone, and the original Dune smithing template. The recipe returns 2 templates, which is the normal way to build a full armor set after finding one copy.

Step 4

Java /give Example

This command gives a netherite chestplate with Dune trim using Gold as the trim material.

/give @p minecraft:netherite_chestplate[minecraft:trim={pattern:"minecraft:dune",material:"minecraft:gold"}] 1

Bedrock Edition

On Bedrock, create the trim at a smithing table. Give yourself the armor piece first, then combine the armor, the Dune smithing template, and a Gold trim material in the smithing table UI.

/give @s netherite_chestplate

Bedrock commands cannot fully encode every trimmed armor combination the same way modern Java item components can, so the smithing table step is the reliable method.
